Are Your Habits Healthy?

With summer here, it’s the perfect time to take some inventory and get rid of all those unhealthy habits, and make room for some new healthy ones. Bad habits are detrimental to both your physical and mental well being, as well as getting in the way of achieving your goals. Below are some questions for you to ask yourself so that you can make positive change in your life and purge those bad habits.

  1. Are you a workaholic? This is common habit for someone that is trying to fill their time and avoid fixing problems in their life or taking responsibility for themselves. This could mean you need to focus more on spending time with others and doing activities that make you happy.
  2. Do you get enough sleep? If you find yourself feeling fatigued and tired throughout your days, perhaps making sure you get the proper amount of sleep will remedy this. And maybe even help you cut down your coffee intake, which will help your physical health.
  3. Do you eat real food? Diet is perhaps the most overlooked bad habit that many people have. A bad diet is not only a negative thing for your physical self, it can leave you feeling icky on the inside as well. Check your local farmer’s markets for fresh produce and healthy treats. It’s nice to support local growers, and it’s also better on your pocketbook.
  4. Do you exercise regularly? Along with a healthy diet, a healthy habit that has unlimited benefits is exercise. Exercise is a healthy habit that makes you want to ditch all your bad habits.
  5. Do you have a hobby? We always need to make time for hobbies or activities that we are genuinely passionate about. No matter how bad a day you have, you can always have something to indulge in that makes you smile and helps to clear your head. Who knows, you might discover some hidden talent you never thought you had.
  6. Are the people around you practicing healthy habits? We truly are only as good as the people we surround ourselves with. It’s hard to break old habits if we associate with people that also have a lot of unhealthy habits. Take some time to do an inventory of your life, and don’t be afraid to fire some friends that are detrimental to your growth.
  7. Married to your mobile? No doubt our iPhones and Blackberries have made it easier to streamline life, but make sure to disconnect from them every day for as much time as possible to get back to enjoying your surroundings and people in your life. Don’t forget that there was a time where we actually did operate quite efficiently without these toys!
  8. Do you maintain your life goals? Make sure to set aside time to re-evaluate and keep track of your life goals, where you stand, and what you need to do to get where you want to be. All too often in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it’s easy to lose track of our purpose and what we want to achieve, which leads to making decisions that don’t benefit our agendas.

Keeping track of our habits is a never-ending job, but is essential to leading a healthy, happy lifestyle. When life is getting you down, or you feel out of touch with people, sit down and take a look at habits and if they’re good or not, then make a few adjustments – and you’ll be back in no time.
