Soulmates with an expiration date

Some people hang on to marriages and romantic relationships through irreparable damage, unbearable pain and heartbreak because - when they first met and while everything was good - they believed they were soulmates.

Often these couples find it hard, if not impossible, no matter how unhealthy and futile the relationship has become, to let it go. They're willing to do everything in their power to try to make their "meant to be" relationship work. After all, aren't soulmates supposed to live out their lives together?

Rita (not her real name), had been circling in and out of a relationship that had lost it's soul before it even had a chance to take off. "What's happening with my marriage?" she asked Tara Joan. This was her first psychic reading and she had called out of desperation, she admitted. "I can't make this work." Rita's husband, Lee, had embarked on a spiritual journey, at her suggestion, and had been shutting her out as he moved along his newfound path.

Tara Joan focused on Lee with her Empathic abilities and her Universal Tarot deck. "There are many positive things going on in his life… I also have an Eight of Cups. In my experience, it means he's not coming back. There is a Three of Swords meaning a third party is influencing him, and their connection is escalating."

Rita confirmed that Tara Joan's revelations were true. "Lee didn't have much direction when I met him. I found him a job, and got him started with golf and tennis, and then I introduced him to yoga and meditation. Now he and the yoga teacher have become best friends - I think they're just friends. He's in training to teach meditation and yoga. The yoga, the meditation, the seminars, the spiritual journey he's embarked on… it feels like it moved him right out of our marriage," Rita complained.

"He's completely focused on himself. He's doing well for himself. He has some confusion about you. On the other hand," she suggested, "you are stuck! Why do I think you're playing with fire?" she asked her caller.

"Lee moved out, but we're dating again. We're soulmates. Shouldn't we be able to work this out."

"There is a soul connection, but it may not have been meant to last," the psychic explained. "You've lost sight of yourself in this relationship, and in the process, Lee has grown to resent the things you've done for him. If you stay involved you'll never be clear about what you really want… and there is that third party involved."

Rita told Tara Joan, that she didn't know that a soul connection could be temporary. Her friends and family had counseled her to move on, but she needed to feel like she'd explored every possibility. "My best friend and my sister think I settled when I married him."

"What brought you together in the first place?" Tara Joan asked.

Rita admitted tearfully that she had never been deeply in love with Lee. There had been passion and friendship, strong enough that they decided to marry within months after meeting. "I don't believe in fairy tales. I don't believe anything better will come along...." she said fighting a deluge of tears as the call ended.

"Lee's having an affair with the yoga teacher and stringing me along," Rita revealed to Tara Joan painfully during a follow-up reading with the intuitive. "I hired a detective. I know everything now, but I keep seeing him yet I know I also want to end this."

"My theory is that when relationships end, there's a lot of emotional residue left over," Tara Joan explained to her client. "You need to clean up all those old psychic connections, purge your heart, and take them out to the trash."

She suggested that Rita write down all of the negatives, the pain, anything that she might have left unsaid as an exercise to open her mind and heart to her future. "When you've finished writing, take your power back, announce that you're letting Lee go, and burn the list in the fireplace, to release it. Collect and flush away the ashes."

Rita called Tara Joan every three weeks after that to check in on her progress.

Her work as a graphic artist was picking up, she was enjoying her social life, "spoiling" herself with massages every other week and investigating her own spiritual path. "I was just wondering… actually I've been afraid to ask, if you saw true love, you know that fairy tale stuff, as part of my journey?"

"Yes," Tara Joan replied. "It's a kind of a fairy tale romance, he'll help you make some of your dreams come true. What I see is a love of two equals… two equals who love each other for who they are."

"Soulmate stuff?" Rita asked.

"Happily-ever-after soulmate stuff!" the intuitive reader clarified.
