Peace comes to a marriage and in a dream

by Cortney Litwin

Is it love?

I have been married for 2½ years. My stepson died 5/26/06 - since then, my husband has been very depressed and we are on the verge of separating. Do you see anything in our future together? He was born 4/23/53 and my birthday is 8/13/50. Thank you!

JoAnn from Saint Louis

Dear JoAnn,

I'm so sorry about your stepson. It sounds like your husband is lost in his grief and can't picture your future together. Saturn, the planet of responsibility (and depression), has been the culprit in keeping your relationship stuck. For the past two years, until this month, Saturn in Leo has been weighing heavily on your Sun, Moon and Pluto in Leo and your husband's Sun, Mars and Jupiter in Taurus and Pluto in Leo. Fortunately, Saturn transited out of Leo and into Virgo on September 2, so you should soon be feeling like your relationship is moving forward once again.

However, you still have to contend with Neptune, the planet of spirituality, denial and disillusionment. This influence may feel like it's dissolving the foundation of your relationship out from under you. Don't panic! The best way to handle Neptune is not to blame your "divine discontent" on each other but to take it as a nudge to focus on your spiritual life and creative talents. Being an earth sign who needs security, your husband particularly may feel adrift, so it's important that he get in touch with his inner life. This is a great time for therapy. On a more physical level, it's important that you both avoid over indulging in alcohol or drugs as a way to cope, and accept whatever your feeling. Your husband will also benefit by being out in nature as a way to keep grounded. Although your Taurus can't be pushed (as you undoubtedly know!), he has Venus in Aries, which says he likes an assertive woman who can lead him into new and exciting activities. Well, he married a double Leo with loads of fire! So don't forget the romance in your relationship and the excitement of discovering new things together.

Blessings,
Cortney

All in a dream

I am standing on the street in front of an outdoor café - it feels like Paris or Mexico City. The light is shading exactly half the street. I am in the sun, looking up at an apartment that feels like my tree house. The old, high building is simple and majestic. That part of the street is shaded. It feels like the afternoon sun is going down. It is quiet and calm. I feel like I've just had lunch or coffee with an old friend. I take her to see my tree house. The entrance is on the street. We walk up wooden stairs to the landing. Once in the door, there is a bedroom to the left that has a black, king sized futon taking up the whole room. It feels like there are coffee cups and wrappers around. Maybe someone else has been staying there - a guy - it feels like the band members or bicycle messengers I use to hang out with. It is very sunny outside and perfectly temperate inside. It feels like other people come and go in this place - maybe my lovers. My friend and I poke our head in the bedroom but walk to the small open living and dining room. There's a little kitchen tucked away in the back (kind of like one I had in my first apartment in San Francisco). The kitchen feels like it is dark but we don't go in it. I love this little place. Suddenly, a workman falls through the roof in the bedroom, but he sort of slides down a sloped roof into the house. He is Italian, older with workman boots and a mustache. I ask if he is okay. He says he is and it all feels okay, but he can't move his neck or get up yet. Even though this should be a traumatic event, it all feels like it will be okay. The dream is so serene. . . and I feel so centered.

Kim from Hollywood

Hello Kim,

What an enchanting dream! My first thought is that you're accessing a deep level of creativity that has its roots in your past. The sun going down and the old building suggest the closing of an era from your past, but the exotic/whimsical elements in the dream (foreign locale, tree house, band members, bicycle messengers), still intrigue you. I think the dream is encouraging you to get in touch with that time in your life to enhance your creative juices. And perhaps it's time to take a long trip for further inspiration! The upper levels of your tree house indicate that you're being guided by your higher self, or super-conscious. Actually, the whole dream has a beautifully spiritual quality about it. One interesting symbol is the bedroom with the messy remnants of someone having been there. And the workman falling through the roof! Do they feel like intruders? Is there something from your past that's intruding on your personal life now? The roof accident may indicate over-intellectualizing (the roof representing your mind). And the dark kitchen that you sidestepped in the dream may indicate a change needed in your diet that you've been avoiding. But I think overall, the serenity and brightness of the dream indicate that you're at peace with your life and spiritually centered.

Sweet dreams,
Cortney
